Ethnograph and Windows XP, NT, 2K

1. DO NOT install Ethnograph into the \Program Files directory. If you have already done so, uninstall Ethnograph.

2. Install Ethnograph into a directory named c:\ethno

3. Put your projects in a directory named c:\projects\<my project>

4. Make sure that all directory/folder names are no more than 8 characters long.

Ethnograph and Windows 2K

Ethnograph and the new service pack for Windows 2K, service pack 4, do not get along.  To fix this problem you need to download a new file, ffserv32.exe, from our ftp site ftp.qualisresearch.com/pub You will replace the existing ethserve.exe with ffserv32.exe. 

PRINT THESE INSTRUCTIONS NOW!!

1. Click on ftp.qualisresearch.com/pub or type it into your web browser.

2. Double click on ffserv32.exe and save it to your Ethnograph program folder, usually ..\ethno50.

3. Use either My Computer or Windows Explorer to open the ..\ethno50 folder.

4. Rename ETHSERVE.EXE to xETHESERVE.EXE.

5. Rename ffserv32.exe to ethserve.exe.

6. Close all windows.

7. Restart your computer.

8. Use either My Computer or Windows Explorer to open the ..\ethno50 folder.

9. Double click on ethserve.exe

10. Click on Config/General Config

11. In the Server Name Field Type ethnograph

12. Make sure the two Startup Options are checked.

13. Click OK

14. Click Config/Aliases

15. Delete any Aliases

16. Click OK

17. Close the ethserve program

18. Restart your computer.

19. Cross your fingers, knock on wood, start Ethnograph
